Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to inform you that due to a situation in the vicinity of Prescott Learning Centre, the RCMP has advised us to initiate a Shelter-in-Place as a precautionary measure. Please be assured that all students and staff are safe, and we are in constant communication with local authorities as the situation develops.

During this Shelter-in-Place, students were asked to remain in their classrooms and carry on with their day. A shelter-in-place also means there is no one allowed in or out of the building. PSD’s emergency response plan, which is designed for situations including environmental threats such as severe storms or chemical spills, has been fully enacted to ensure the safety and well-being of your children.

Key Points:

Student Safety: All students who were outside at the time of the alert have been brought indoors, and all external doors and windows have been secured.
Communication with Authorities: We are following directions from the RCMP and will lift the Shelter-in-Place only when it is deemed completely safe to do so by them.
Student Release: Please note, students will not be released or dismissed until we receive the 'all clear' from the authorities.
Bus Transportation: For students who utilize bus services, please be aware that the buses are currently staged at Greystone Centennial Middle School Transfer Station. They will be dispatched to Prescott as soon as we receive clearance from the RCMP.

We understand the anxiety and concern that incidents like these cause, and we are committed to providing you with timely and accurate updates. We ask for your cooperation in not coming to the school as it may interfere with emergency response efforts. We will notify you as soon as the Shelter-in-Place has been lifted and it is safe for you to pick up your children.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time. The safety of your children is our utmost priority, and we are dedicated to handling this situation with the highest level of care and urgency.

Sincerely,

Chris Shaw, Principal
Prescott Learning Centre
