Attendance Area Changes - February Update

Some parents and guardians have reached out in advance of the registration window that opened on Monday, February 13th with questions about legacy opportunities for younger students who may want to choose to remain at their current school as a school-of-choice once attendance areas change for the 2023-2024 school year.
We just wanted to update our families on the process we will be following for school-of-choice applications for the 2023-2024 school year. As mentioned in previous correspondence, there will be an opportunity for some students to legacy at their existing school (Grades 7 - 9 as outlined by the Board of Trustees recommendations). As far as younger siblings go, PSD schools in Spruce Grove will not be accepting requests for school-of-choice until after registration has taken place. At that time, school administrators will have a better idea of space and resources available by grade. Families will be able to explore possibilities beginning Monday, April 3, 2023 - AFTER Spring Break.
School Tours
In the spirit of creating welcoming and inviting spaces for our younger students transitioning to a new school, Brookwood School and Woodhaven Middle School will be facilitating school tours for those students living in the affected attendance areas during the morning of March 9, 2023. Field trip/consent forms will be sent home with students prior to this date.
Open Houses
On the same evening of the student school tours, all families are welcome to Open Houses at the receiving schools for a chance to meet staff and learn more about the two PSD schools located in the centre of the City of Spruce Grove. Recognizing that some families will have difficult decisions to make with younger and older siblings potentially attending different schools beginning in 2023-2024, we wanted to provide families with an opportunity to explore options found within their new schools before considering the school-of-choice application process described above.

Where: Brookwood & Woodhaven Middle Schools
When: Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Brookwood School
School tours will start at 5pm, 5:30pm and 6pm
Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Woodhaven Middle School
School tours will start at 6pm, 6:30pm, and 7pm
Please note that once the school-of-choice process opens April 3rd, applications will NOT be considered on a first come, first served basis. Details on the criteria that will be used for this school-of-choice process will be shared when they become available.
In the meantime, to help our school administrators facilitate planning for the upcoming school year and to assist our Transportation Services department in their bus route planning, families must please register at what will be your designated school prior to the registration deadline of March 24, 2023. Your ‘Next Year School’ will be indicated on the RSVP online registration form which is accessed through the PowerSchool parent portal.
